Frequently Asked Questions

General

Where are you located?

We’re based in North Carolina, with most of our foster homes located in and around the Charlotte metro area. While we’re currently focused on our local community, we do welcome adopters and supporters from anywhere in the U.S.

Do you have a physical shelter I can visit?

We don’t have a public shelter space—our rescue is entirely foster-based, which means all of our cats live in real homes with loving foster families until they’re adopted.

Because of that, we aren’t able to offer walk-in visits, but approved adopters may be able to meet cats in person depending on the foster’s availability. We also host monthly adoption events in partnership with local pet stores, where you can meet some of our adoptable cats in person and say hello to our team. We always share upcoming events on social media and our website!

Are you a 501(c)(3) nonprofit?

Yes, we are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. That means all donations made to Never Less Cat Rescue are tax-deductible and go directly toward the care, medical treatment, and support of the cats in our rescue.

Our EIN is 99-2518315. Donation receipts are available upon request, and we’re always happy to provide documentation or answer questions about our nonprofit status.

We’re committed to transparency, integrity, and doing right by the animals in our care and we’re so grateful to everyone who believes in our mission.

How can I stay updated on your rescue and available cats?

The best way to stay connected with Never Less Cat Rescue is to follow us on social media! We regularly post updates on available cats, adoption events, behind-the-scenes moments, and ways you can help support our work.

You can also check our website anytime for adoptable cats and upcoming events. As we grow, we may offer a newsletter or other ways to stay in the loop—but for now, Instagram and Facebook are where all the action is.

Adoptions

How does the adoption process work?

At Never Less Cat Rescue, we believe in making thoughtful, lasting matches—not just quick placements. Our adoption process is designed to help us get to know both our cats and our adopters so we can find the best fit for everyone involved.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Submit an adoption application – This helps us learn about your home, lifestyle, and what kind of cat you're hoping to welcome.

  2. Application review – We’ll reach out within 2 business days to follow up, ask any questions, and talk about potential matches.

  3. If a cat seems like a good fit, we’ll walk you through next steps, which may include a meet-and-greet depending on the cat’s foster situation and your preference.

  4. Adoption decision – If everyone feels good about the match, we’ll finalize things with a quick adoption agreement and donation.

  5. Welcome home – You bring home your new best friend, and we’re here for ongoing support whenever you need it.

We don’t operate on a first-come, first-served basis—we focus on the right match. Whether you're adopting your first cat or your fifth, we’re here to help make it a beautiful beginning.

How do you choose which adopter is the best match?

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all adoptions. Every cat in our care has a unique personality, history, and set of needs—and every adopter has a different home, lifestyle, and vision for their future feline companion.

Our matchmaking process means we take time to truly get to know each cat and each applicant. We learn what the cat enjoys, what they’re sensitive to, and what kind of environment they thrive in. Then we look at what you’re hoping for in a companion—your home setup, energy level, experience, and preferences—and aim for the best fit on both sides.

We don’t make decisions based on who applied first. We make them based on who we believe is the right long-term match for that specific cat. This approach helps us create happier outcomes and lifelong connections—because no one deserves to be rehomed twice.

What do your cats come home with?

Every cat adopted from Never Less Cat Rescue receives the same level of compassionate, thorough care—no matter their age, background, or story. Before going home, all of our cats are:
✔️ Spayed or neutered
✔️ Vaccinated based on age
✔️ Triple tested (FIV, FeLV, and heartworms)
✔️ Microchipped
✔️ Given any medical treatment or rehabilitation they need
✔️ Loved and socialized in a foster home

We also provide medical records and ongoing support for each of our adopters. Our goal is to set every cat—and every family—up for success from day one.

What if it doesn’t work out?

We know that sometimes, despite everyone’s best efforts, things don’t go as planned. If your adopted cat isn’t adjusting well or if your circumstances change, we’re here for you. We never want one of our cats to end up without a safe place to land.

If an adoption doesn’t work out, our cats are always welcome back into the rescue—no judgment, no shame. We’ll work with you to do what’s best for the cat and support you through the transition.

Fostering

What does fostering a cat involve?

Fostering means opening your home to a cat in need while they wait for their forever family. You’ll provide a safe, loving space where they can decompress, heal, and just be themselves. Some cats need a short-term stay, while others may be with you a little longer depending on their needs and adoption interest.

As a foster, you’ll help with basic daily care—feeding, litter box cleaning, and social time—and we’ll support you every step of the way. We provide medical care, guidance, and supplies when needed.

We also work closely with our fosters to match them with cats that are a good fit for their home and lifestyle. Whether you prefer kittens, seniors, special needs cats, or low-maintenance companions, we’ll help find the right match. Fostering is flexible, deeply rewarding, and truly saves lives.

What support do fosters receive?

We’ve got your back—always. As a foster with Never Less Cat Rescue, you’ll never be expected to figure things out on your own. We provide:

  • Veterinary care coordination

  • Coverage for medical expenses

  • Ongoing support and guidance

  • Access to supplies when needed (like litter, food, toys, or carriers)

  • Help with transportation

  • A direct point of contact for questions or concerns

We’re also big on communication and community. You’ll get to be part of a team that genuinely cares—not just about the cats, but about you, too. Whether it’s your first time fostering or your fiftieth, we’ll be here every step of the way.

What role do fosters play in the adoption process?

Fosters are at the heart of everything we do. They spend day-to-day time with their foster cats—getting to know their quirks, personalities, likes, and boundaries better than anyone else. That insight is what makes our matchmaking process so special.

Because our cats live in real homes, we can share honest, detailed information with adopters—like whether a cat loves lap time, prefers a quiet space, or thrives with playful companions. Fosters also help provide photos, updates, and sometimes assist with meet-and-greets, depending on their comfort level.

Their feedback helps us make the most informed, thoughtful matches possible—for both the cat and the adopter.

Can I adopt my foster cat?

Absolutely. We call that a “foster win” (though “foster fail” is the nickname we all secretly love). Sometimes, the bond between a foster and a cat is undeniable—and if it feels right for both of you, we’re fully supportive of making it official.

As with all adoptions, we’ll just walk through the usual steps: confirming it’s the best match, completing the adoption agreement, and finalizing the donation. Whether your role is temporary or forever, we’re just happy the cat has found love.
